March Madness March 15- March 31

Audacity & Hope  - three lambies born in one morning is a good sign! and since these are troubled times for most of us, i thought i'd underline the good sign with some positive names. accordingly, these twins are Audacity ("Audie" ) for the boy, and Hope for the girl. Audie is the one on the left baaing away at the top of his lungs
DOB:
March 25, aprox. 6 am Sire: Sualtam, Ewe: O46 (29:20M,9F)

Courage - keeping the positive energy concept going, this gorgeous little girl is called Courage. All three lambs were found at the same time (about 7 am) so it hard to know if Courage is older or younger than the twins but the arrival together of these three lambs brings a symmetry to the lamb numbers that even the great detective Monk would appreciate.
DOB:
March 25, aprox. 6 am Sire: Sualtam, Ewe: R20 (30:20M,10F)

Snowball & Hell - as if it weren't bad enough to be born in a freaky late-march snowstorm, these twins got names to commemorate the occasion: Snowball and Hell! it took them awhile to warm up after Ian got them safely into the barn, but luckily their mama is big and fluffy and a perfect lambie-warmer, so they're both doing fine after a rather harsh welcome to the world.
DOB: March 26, aprox. 10 am  Sire: Sualtam, Ewe: NT2 (32:20M,12F)

Raoul - one of our sweetest ewes, the former bottle baby A-a-a-annie, has had her second lamb, another big strong handsome boy like her last-year's lamb Harry Callahan. this boy has great multicolor markings and is very dashing and debonair; i named him Raoul. You cnat quite see them in this picture but Raoul has large horn buds, a sure sign he will grow up to have a nice big set of horns.
DOB: March 26, aprox. 3 pm Sire: Harp, Ewe: O95Annie (33:21M,12F)

Spyder - we were watching this mama doing her pre-birth rituals, waiting and watching. then all of a sudden... there was her baby lambie! it's quite cold out, so we hustled them both into the barn as quickly as we could. the new lambie is a beautiful black girl with lonnnnngggg spindly legs. i named her Spyder, because while her mama was getting ready to have her,  you could see that she "wiggled, and jiggled, and tickled inside her."
DOB: March 28, 3 pm Sire: Enrico Jr, Ewe: O56 (34:21M,13F)

Karaoke Joe - there was a new lambie in the OB/GYN pasture this morning at first light, a BIG boy with a very snarky mom... she kept body-checking me, trying to knock me over as i took them to the barn, and she's also a BIG one! oof. she was also very busy baaing to her lambie, and every time she did he would BAAAAA along with her in a very loud but not too tuneful voice, so i named him Karaoke Joe.
DOB:
March 29, approx. 6 am Sire: Sualtam, Ewe: O68 (35:22M,13F)

The Grackles, Jill and Gail - are named for two of my sisters (who were called The Grackles by our Dad when they were little, for their continual chattering). these girls were born out in the cold rain this morning, and when i picked them up they were shivering and chattering, so their names were obvious. [side note: lambies are often born during atrocious weather, because sheep are basically prey animals and predators tend to stay home sensibly when conditions are foul. makes for some harsh introductions to the world, but better than being eaten!]
DOB:
March 29, 9 am Sire: Sualtam, Ewe: O112 (37:21M,15F)

Mary - one of our more unusual sheep breeds is the Scottish Blackface, or Scottie. their coloring is a distinctive white with black markings on the face and legs. our fourth baby for today is a little BLACK girl, her mama is a Scottie and her dad is half Scottie. so we now have a black 3/4 Scottie girl! of course, i named her Mary Queen of Scots.
DOB:
March 29, 2:30 pm Sire: Enrico Jr, Ewe: Y16 (38:21M,16F)

Google and Yahoo - twin girls! six lambies in one day is the most we've ever had, if we get one more today (and it's only 4:30) we could set a new record. these little girls were born out in the pouring rain to a mom who'd tried to steal Mary Queen of Scots just an hour ago -- hoping no doubt to avoid going through labor herself. now she's happy with two girls of her own. they were very easy to find, so i call them Google and Yahoo. (Google has the brown face markings and is standing)
DOB:
March 29, 4 pm Sire: Sualtam, Ewe: O36 (40:21M,18F)

HuNu - one of our neighbors asked if we would bring some sheep over to graze in his back yard for awhile (organic lawn mowers!), so Ian took a handful of the yearlings who wouldn't be having lambs yet this year. imagine his amazement to see a little lambie over there among them this afternoon!? the lambie and his mama (teenage mom that she is) are now in our barn with all the others. what a surprise! i named him HuNu -- who knew???
DOB: March 30, aprox noon Sire: Itchy, Ewe: O136 (41:22M,18F)

Butch & Sundance - little twin boys in the frosty early morning... i didn't actually see them at first, but as the first rays of the sun came slanting in, i saw little lambie legs dancing under mama's wooly belly. they're both handsome, one dark and one light, but full of adventure already: Butch and Sundance. (Butch is the dark one)
DOB: March 31, aprox 6 am Sire: Harp, Ewe: O107 (43:24M,18F)
