The Early Bird and Friends Feb 16-March 28
Charlie Parker -
Charlie Parker the early Bird, born in early february, five weeks ahead of
schedule, but fine and happy and loves to sleep on his mama's wooly back.
DOB: Feb 16, aprox 6 am Sire: anybodies guess Ewe: (1:1M,0F) |
Barack - baby Barack, the first of this
year's lambies born *at the proper time,* ahem! (Charlie Parker, the early
Bird, is five weeks old already.) he was born this morning to one of our
favorite girls, Lucy Longtail, her first lambie ever. she's being a very
good and attentive mama, and young Barack is big and strong and ready to
answer the 3 a.m. phone call on day one!
DOB: March 22, aprox 8 am Sire: EnricoIII, Ewe: Lucy
Longtail (2:2M,0F) |
Michelle - "Michelle, ma
belle. Sont des mots qui vont très bien ensemble, Très bien ensemble." a
perfect companion for little lambie Barack -- she's big and frisky and
incredibly cute! changed her mother's name from Mrs. 43 to Marian, of
course..
DOB: March 23, aprox 3 am Sire: EnricoIII, Ewe: O43 (3:2M,1F) |
Beastie -
Beastie was a scrawny little thing when she was first born, looking more
like a drowned rat than a lambie. but once she and her mom were snug in the
barn and she was all fluffed up, she's as cute as can be. her name comes
from her long long legs: "from ghoulies and ghosties and long-leggedy
beasties and things that go bump in the night, dear lord deliver us."
DOB: March 23, aprox 1 pm Sire: Harp, Ewe: G36 (4:2M,2F) |
Maaaher
- the night Ma-a-aher was born, we had planned a relaxing evening
(for once), sitting by a cozy fire in the woodstove and watching Bill
Maher's movie "Religulous." but when we went out to the barn around 8:30 to
check on everyone, we found one of the little shetland ewes going into
labor! so instead of watching the movie, we ended up watching this little
all-black darling come into the world. much better entertainment... though
we still want to see the movie!
DOB:
March 23, aprox 9 pm Sire: Guiness, Ewe: G33 (5:3M,2F) |
Marshmallow
- Marshmallow is so tiny, i almost didn't see her. it was cold and dark,
foggy and raining at the same time, when i went out for first-light lambie
check. the girls were all huddled together for warmth, and i thought i saw a
tiny head among them. could it be? i couldn't tell for sure until i walked
in with them, and there was teensy little Marshmallow, pure white with the
sweetest fluffy head, snuggled down amid all the nice warm ewes with her
mama.
DOB: March 24, aprox 5 am Sire: Harp, Ewe: G-S178 (6:3M,3F) |
Ruby
- "Ruby Begonia" was born early this morning, another of these
lethally adorable little shetlands! her name comes from the old "Amos 'n'
Andy" radio program... whenever the Kingfish wanted to convince Andy to do
something, he would blackmail him with, “Do the name RUBY BEGONIA mean
anything to ya?”
DOB:
March 25, aprox 5 am Sire: Harp, Ewe: G31 (7:3M,4F) |
Dotcom -
if these shetland lambies get any smaller, we'll have to equip
them with magnifying glasses so people can see them on Meet the Lambies Day
(april 11)! teensy little black girl dot.com makes even the other shetland
babies look big and husky! she's tiny and delicate but frisky from the
beginning. not much bigger than a dot, but with the potential power of... a
dot.com!
DOB:
March 25, aprox 5 pm Sire: Guiness, Ewe: G39 (8:3M,5F) |

Raisinette - Raisinette is named for the cute raisin-size black spots
on her white nose. at first i thought her name should be just "Raisin," but
she's such a sweet little shetland that she suggested "Raisinette" would be
more appropriate. she's the only lambie born during herding clinic weekend
this past saturday and sunday! thanks, girls!
